The Thin Air of Happiness

I haven’t felt happiness
for so long
I almost forgot its taste
its glee
feeling whole
feeling free
and here I am
so happy again.
I can hardly stand it!
I want to dance
or fly
or swim
in a stream
I feel so alive.
Perhaps I am insane.
Perhaps I am sane.
Perhaps I realize
all too well
the ups and downs
of life
the impermanence
of now.
Misery, happiness
they shake hands
and we make peace
with their touch.
