An Open Road

“To remain indifferent to the challenges we face is indefensible. If the goal is noble, whether or not it is realized within our lifetime is largely irrelevant. What we must do therefore is to strive and persevere and never give up.” -Dalai Lama

When life gets complicated,
when life gets empty
and you can’t stand
the hollow shell,
when life gives you lemons
and you make lemonade,
when life offers an open road
you must take a road trip
to fill up your soul;
the cup of love and warmth.
When you need to get out of here
and feel your destiny,
see the inviting trees,
the endless skies,
perhaps even the North Star.
When no one’s by your side
you know you have
your wings to open.
Dust them off and
spread them wide,
feel the air once again.
Let them carry you
over the coastline
of seals and waves
to the rolling hills
where life is blooming
where the open road
has no ending.
Where your wounds heal and
lavender dances behind your ear,
where your heart soars.
Perhaps you’ll return
perhaps you won’t,
but your spirit will know.
