The Song of Trees

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them – that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” – Lao Tzu

And so they sing the same
whether it’s the last day
of the year
or the first breath
of the upcoming
without regrets
they hum their song.
Watching the time flow
without lamenting
about the old
or fearing the new
they don’t dwell, they live
through the seasons.
Deepening their roots
opening their crowns
providing shade
if needed or a hiding place
for the playful.
They watch the moon
and converse
with the gleaming stars
greeting each day alike.
They dance with the wind
and rest with the rain
they welcome each snowflake
and call grass
their carpet of comfort
enjoying the life cycle
we call home.
They listen without judgment
and provide silence for our soul
always present, absorbing whispers
through history, every moment
they just are, tall and strong
modeling a life of beauty
inspiring a way of being;
the peace of trees.
