An Ordinary Day

“You normally have to be bashed about a bit by life to see the point of daffodils, sunsets and uneventful nice days.” – Alain de Botton

AN ORDINARY DAY

Today
I was going to write
something sweet and nice;
about the beauty of sunrise,
the ducklings swimming
in the stream bellow my window,
or the ever so graceful butterflies,
there’re also many dragonflies
circling their way around.
Feels like real wilderness
where I’d like to stay,
but it’s not.
It’s just a small city place.

Today was supposed to be a good day
but Mondays never seem to be so.
And as I am quickly falling
into my deep thoughts,
my dog gives me the look
of true calm and contentment
with eyes big as the Tenaya Lake.
I have so much to learn!

As he gently puts his head in my lap
to comfort me perhaps,
I’m reminded of the connection
between us and them,
between life and death,
between songs and silence.
And so, without words
at peace, side by side we sit.
He made it a good day indeed!
