Lost Dreams

“Hold fast to your dreams, for without them life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly.” – Langston Hughes

The darkness in this room
oh so overwhelming
but I choose to sit in it
and in silence observe
the flow of my energy
as faint as it may be.

Yesterday my head bowed down
in sorrow as a heavy stone
motionless I sat and wept.
Today I must find the strength
to look up and give this day
a chance.

I’m not sure if anything will change
I’m not sure if I’m going to be
a better person than yesterday
but I must try, there’s nothing else.
I hope to go to bed
with peace in my soul
and perhaps, just perhaps,
with dreaming my dream
the flickering light in my heart
will come back to life.
