Peaceful as a Child

“Just imagine becoming the way you used to be as a very young child, before you understood the meaning of any word, before opinions took over your mind. The real you is loving, joyful, and free. The real you is just like a flower, just like the wind, just like the ocean, just like the sun.” – Miguel Angel Ruiz

And as I age, it seems,
I’m becoming more
of the child I once was.
The playful heart
the youthful soul,
not as innocent, perhaps, but
colorful as a crayon box
with vision so vast,
all day I could run and run
without reaching its shore.

I saw the sun
as a pot of gold.
I made a necklace
of the smiling stars,
and I can’t forget
about the meadow
where I used to lie
as if it were the freshest
of beds with ladybugs
as my playmates and
the trees in the background
my dancing audience.

As I’m getting older
with no stone left unturned,
slowly approaching
the horizon of all beginnings
and all ends
I feel at peace
I feel full.
I’m entering my soul
with each breath
deeper I go
becoming more of myself.
Without fear appreciating
the depth,
the pain,
the beginnings,
the endings,
the in between
the knowing,
the wavering.
Making peace with my Self.
