The Soul of Love

“Dogs are our link to paradise. They don’t know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring–it was peace.” ― Milan Kundera

THE SOUL OF LOVE

I slept all of about an hour & a half last night
my dog was sick like a dog.
As we took our usual walk this morning
I felt like an alien visiting this world.
No doubt he felt better, wagging his tail,
so it must be a beautiful day!

After passing an old brick church
and a hospital to the other side,
the winding path leads us to the point
of uncombed grass and an infinite view
where palm trees dance
and boats lazily roam the shores.

While in deep contemplation
on our familiar bench-
the best seat in the park,
we were served a meal of fresh air
and with a twinkle in our eyes
we feasted on the flavors of the sight.

The comfort of silence
sweet as a meadow of honey,
where the soul of love
like a river travels freely
through our veins
into the resting pockets
of our hearts after a sleepless night.
