“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” ~ Maya Angelou
Autumn is such a symbolic period of transformation. We admire the beautiful fall colors of the remaining leaves still flittering on the dry branches of tall trees, resisting the law of gravity and changing seasons. We enjoy the cooler sunsets after months of hot summer nights yet, we often frown at the fallen leaves that create a blanket of grayness under our feet. We forget about the ever changing cycle of life, when the old becomes food for the soul and the fallen a foundation for the growing.
We often lament about the undesirable events we’ve gone through, leaving circles under our eyes, gray hair and lines around the corners of our lips, yet, without them we wouldn’t recognize how far we have come. We often try to deny the sorrow and pain. We tend to forget, but our eyes don’t fail to remind us about the truth of times. There is no denying we change and if lucky our hearts grow bigger with love and empathy too. We grow more from our sorrow, from our losses, our tragedies and at times hopelessness, rather than endless bliss. Even when broken, as long as we don’t give up, we’ll repair with time, for wisdom is a constant observer, following by our side, waiting for the opportunity to enrich our soul.
When we accept the complexity of life, balancing the found with the lost, smile with a tear, pain with joy, we learn that all is part of the journey of discovery. And if wise, we wouldn’t have it any other way. Sure, looking young is nice but feeling whole is more important and fulfilling. For the pain reminds us of the depth of the ocean with treasures unexplored by many. The joy takes us to the heights of mountaintops with unsurpassable views and horizons winking back at us. And once we realize the full landscape of life we can’t be but grateful for the tapestry of versatile threads coloring our face, our mind, our heart and soul even when grieving at a moment, for everything passes with the winds of life. Tomorrow is a brand new day. New day to awaken and continue to transform ourselves.
